The Open House Project

The goal is not to radically rework every Congressional procedure. The operating principle of the Open House Project is known as Paving the Cowpaths. Our recommendations included some very unobtrusive ways to open up the House, low-hanging fruit where the Internet and Congressional procedures come together, though the report also contains several more high-reaching aspirations. The potential of this project lies in the possibility of experts and citizens from all fields to come together and identify areas where Congress can open up and allows all of us to have more information and access. Lead pollution and the collusion of industry and government that sustains it are too dangerous to ignore. It's collusion between government and industry that makes possible the unnecessary maiming and killing of children by the millions.
To understand that government is a consumer, albeit of a special kind, is first to grasp the idea that all government spending, including spending for the category of so-called public goods (highways, bridges, harbors, tunnels, etc.), is consumptive; it is by no means productive in the sense we apply the term to private productive expenditures.
"Slow as a turtle" was how one Iraqi lawmaker on Tuesday described Iraq's faltering progress in meeting political benchmarks set by Washington to encourage national reconciliation and end sectarian violence.
Kevin R.C. Gutzman has just released The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Constitution. For what my opinion is worth, this is one of the most important books of the past 25 years. There is absolutely nothing like it, anywhere.
We the Citizens of America need to return to the rule of law. Not just a law for the masses, no, we need to bring especially those we have elected into compliance with the Constitution - the law governing our government. They were elected for this purpose!
Sadly in my opinion a great darkness has descended over this land. A land where lies, omission, deceit, falsehood and covetousness and greed take the place of honor, character, morals and what is just the plain truth, right and justice.

I have long admired those who, throughout history as well in the present, have spoken truth to power and stood up against tyranny, especially when it mattered most, and especially when it was most difficult.
Does the United States have an opposition media? During the Cold War, if an American journalist or visitor to the Soviet Union reported seeing churches full of people, this was taken as a sign that the people were rejecting and escaping from communism.
We need to stand up, the Democratic Party needs to stand up, at this critical moment in U.S. history and say enough, ENOUGH! If we don't, Bush and his cronies will change the face of this country.

Part 2: Detail on the Single payer Plan. Is it time to consider saving the American pocketbook more than the profits of out-of-control insurance companies?

Two questions have to be asked, and answered, before I can share the "how," in my view, we are restoring the republic. And in spite of what I am about to say in the next few minutes, I usually believe in happy endings, so hold that thought, if you will. First we must ask, what is, or was, the American republic?
Supporters say the program, approved by the Board of Aldermen and believed to be the first of its kind in the nation, will help safeguard the city's estimated 15,000 illegal immigrants. If they can open bank accounts, immigrants will be less likely to carry large amounts of cash, a practice that makes them easy targets for robbers

How health care is financed and delivered is one of the hottest public policy topics of our time, and also one of the most confusing. Here are some suggestions on how to sort through the issues.
There's just one problem: Fred Thompson is not a conservative. He just plays one on TV.
One of the persistent myths of the post-Katrina story is the "the federal government sent all this money to New Orleans". Well, yes and, really no.
I worry that politics could seriously distort the science. Suppose that carbon taxes are widely enacted, but that the rate of global warming increase starts to decline by 2015. The political system might pressure scientists to provide justifications for the taxes.
Governments all over the world massively finance, control, and regulate science and technology.
America has spent billions battling the drug industry in Bolivia, Colombia and Peru. And the result? Production as high as ever, street prices at a low, and the governments of the region in open revolt.
